My new best friend
By Linda R. Miller
I've been lamenting the lack of competition for Kitchenaid mixers in the US for several years and have waited for this machine to become available stateside ever since it was introduced in the UK. The bells and whistles are surprisingly functional, the induction burner being the most innovative of them, but at the end of the day I wanted this product for the higher wattage motor, which is beefier than the Kitchenaid Pro and on the way to the power of a Hobart. I think they had to dumb it down some for the US market as the equivalent machine in the UK has a 1500W motor whereas my owner's manual says the US version is equipped with 1150W, but it's still a noticeable improvement over the KA Pro model, based on my experiment of running them side-by-side on max power. (It's ironic that our country trusts us with assault weapons but not high wattage mixers.)The power thing may not mean anything to you, but it should. I've killed two KA Pros in five years because I'm mixer-intensive (bread and bagel dough, meat grinding, pasta multiple x per week, etc), & frankly, I'm sick of replacing cheap crap with more cheap crap. Kenwood has a history of making lifetime-quality mixers, and while I've only owned mine for a short while, I am confident this will hold true because of the competency of the motor. Incidentally, I did a double batch of stiff bagel dough and she handled it with ease. The induction burner really pushes the machine to a higher level and makes this purchase viable for novices and experts alike. It's kind of like the neo-hotplate- you could take this one machine away to a stove-less cabin for the week and still make gourmet meals. I've braised oxtails, made creamier-than-sin mashed potatoes, & several soups, all in the last 3 days. Can't wait to temper chocolate, proof dough, make risotto, & more.Word of warning- a lot comes in this box- plan to carve out storage nearby, tho the mixer itself has a relatively small footprint for the capacity.

This is it - it's all you need
By Mark D. Bentley
This is an incredible machine; it's nothing short of amazing.I bought it primarily with curry and risotto cooking in mind; the endless stirring such dishes require sometimes puts me off cooking them. This issue is now gone forever - caramalising onion is now a breeze and the risotto just stirs itself.I believe there are slightly different configurations you can buy in terms of accessories that come with it. I bought this in New Zealand and the only option stocked is one that comes with a blender, food processor, and the machine itself complete with lots of mixing attachments. The box is huge from a shipping perspective and weighs in at 30kg. Surprisingly the local NZ price is cheaper than in the US, Australia and the UK - this never happens normally; makes me an even happier camper.Miking cakes or kneading dough is impressive and far better than my previous toy machines. In fact we ceremoniously tossed out the old mixer, blender, and food processor - the Cooking Chef simply works better in all regards. The cooking function is what makes the machine amazing though - there are three stirring options: continuous, every five seconds, and every thirty seconds. You set the temperature your want and it heats to that temperature and holds it there - you'll never burn anything again. The only small issue I've found is that the machine can't stir very chunky vegetables very well - they get stuck between the stirring attachment and cause the bowl to rotate which turns the machine off. The solution is to chop the vegetables to smaller sizes. In terms of construction this machines gives the impression it will last a lifetime; the exception is that two of the items needed for cooking: the splash guard and heat guard are made from plastic and I can easily imagine needing to buy replacements every few years since they don't look like they'll survive the sorts of accidents that sometimes happen when cleaning up. This is a very minor concern though - the machine and tools could not be made more robust.
