What a wonderful way to cook! Make SURE you have the RIGHT cookware.

If only one could get this type of cooking in a stove at a reasonable price! At the present time, since there is very little demand for magnetic induction cooking, full stovetops are very expensive. However, one can purchase a single burner unit like this one from Waring Pro, and discover how wonderful induction cooking is!This induction cooktop is super energy efficient. All you heat is the pan. Right next to it the surface is totally cool. Indeed, the only heat on the cooktop comes from the pan itself. After use, the fan will run for a minute or so to make sure the surface is temperate to the touch. Moreover, the cooktop will will not function if it does not sense a pan/pot on the surface (or the right kind of pan), and will shut off if the pot gets to hot. When I first put my stainless steel pasta pot on it nothing happened. I thought something was wrong. But that pot bottom was not magnetic, and thus would not work with magnetic induction. You MUST have the right kind of cookware (it should say induction on the storebox - we use Circulon Infinite Infinite Circulon 10-Piece Set- or simply test it with a magnet in the store. Aluminum, copper, etc. will not work. Cast iron works fine, but the weight of cast iron could scratch the surface if you are not careful.I find that whatever you cook heats really fast, faster than our electric range because there is no warmup; heat is instantaneous. Cooldown almost so. No waste of energy. Some fan noise, not objectionable, and some slight higher frequency noise when it is heating. Timer can be handy if you are not sure when you might get back.We are really pleased with this. We use it on our kitchen island where you can cook with it, or keep something warm in total safety because the sides of the cooktop are cool to the touch. You would need some counter space to use it, and we store it easily by leaning it up against the wall under the counter so it is always ready for use. It cleans up super easy since it never gets hot! This unit could also be used camping with an inverter, during a power outage using an inverter and a car battery, or in the backyard to heat the beans when you are cooking burgers. Many uses are possible as long as you can supply 1400 watts of power from your inverter. There are some other models available from other manufacturers right here on Amazon, but I do not think you could go wrong with this unit by Waring. It is beautifully made - a fine asset to your kitchen. It would also be great for summer cooking as less heat would be added to your kitchen. Highly recommended!

Nice, if imperfect, unit
By Steve
We have a radiant cooktop (not induction) installed in our house. Occasionally we have found the need for another large burner. The Waring Pro ICT100 caught our attention because the price and feature set seemed right and we'd had good experience with other Waring Pro items (most notably a deep fryer). There are several things to like about the ICT100: It heats up really fast, it's reasonably quiet, it's energy efficient, and it has a large surface area that accommodates our large cast iron dutch ovens and our All Clad Stainless cookware well. Its controls are also easy to understand and use. And it's a breeze to clean. There are also some cons: Our unit, at least, creates a blazing "hot spot" right in the middle of the pot/pan...which can cause food to burn. (This occurs even on the lower heat settings.) The price may be a bit higher than similar units. And, if you're not familiar with induction, be warned that you need a magnetic pan (e.g., cast iron, magnetic stainless steel, etc. -- aluminum will not work).Overall, I recommend this unit. It's imperfect, but it has been a nice addition to our kitchen and we find it very useful when we either need an extra burner or we don't want to mess up our built-in cooktop.

solid, excellent

over a years use I have not had any problems with it, though I have never have used it on its highest setting. very powerful, good heating area, good price. I constantly use pots with diameters of less then 4 inches and it works just as well as anything larger. I can also use the MSR stainless camping bowls on them with no problem which was a surprise to me. sometimes if liquid gets under a pot or bowl it hydroplanes it off center and shuts it down. I like that you can lift the pot off the cooktop and it stays on. It doesn't hum or whine and the fan is not noisy. The worst thing about this since I tend to be the set and leave type of cook is that the timer won't shut the unit down once it runs down but I have two other induction cooktop I use when I need that function. the timer just makes a beep that you'd be hardpressed to hear if there are other commotions distracting you. I also think it could use another power option at the low end. I use a microfiber cloth to keep the top looking new. I have not had the chance to test porcelain enameled steel (on order) on it yet but circulon infinite line, inox steel bases, iron chef enameled wok quantanium nonstick, carbon iron wok, henckel tri-ply and arc cookware works fine. no frill easy to use, powerful cooktop that has never been finicky with me.
