Quiet, reliable low setting, but power when I need it-excellent unit!
By Maureen
Knowing that I truly needed an extra burner in my kitchen but not wanting to waste my money, I took a lot of time researching before I settled on this burner. I didn't want a clumsy hot plate, but something that was efficient, stable, safe, with a low profile.Delving into the realm of induction burners was an exciting but daunting step, although choosing induction was a no-brainer. As I read information and reviews I realized there was a lot to consider: wattage, how low was low, noise level, cook time allowances, and diameter of surface being truly magnetized. The main thing I need this for is stock-I make gallons and gallons of stock every week, in fairly large pots (Calphalon & LeCreuset primarily). With lots of kids in the house I didn't want a surface, or unit, which was tipsy and likely to let my pots spill off. Stocks need to be simmered low and slow, so I need something that could maintain a true low simmer (boiling destroys proteins in the stock) and for an extended period of time, so I couldn't use something that turned off automatically in a few hours time. And then there is the noise factor-I was reading reviews that mentioned that one needed to be prepared for the constant humming, often loud, of the unit. With 7 kids about, I certainly did not need any more noise! After many hours spent considering first this, then another, and still more induction units, I settled on this one. I have to say that after only a few days, I am thrilled with my purchase! I have already made stock, and then soup with it. It did simmer low and slow, just like I needed, and was very quiet in the process. It is easy to set, easy to clean, and stable on my counter top. It rapidly brings my tea kettle to a boil. What's not to love?! I think that for the price I really got my money's worth! Should there be any problems I will surely update this review, but for now I am certainly well satisfied and would recommend this unit to anyone!

Love it. It works with my Honda EU1000
By dinotech
I love this thing. I bought it because it has multiple heat settings. It cooks two eggs, gently, at 100 watts, and it boils a full tea kettle in about seven minutes at 1300 watts. All my cookware is stainless steel.I bought it for my camper, because it is light, and should not stall my quiet, little Honda EU1000 generator (Standard hot plates present a very heavy load when they are first turned on, and will kill the motor on most small generators). My Honda EU1000 loved it at it's 700 watt setting, and boiled 1/2 a tea kettle in ten minutes. Another good thing is that it has a delay between settings that allows time to change before presenting the selected load to the generator. Also, I like the easy clean up, when food gets spilled onto the cooktop.

Wow! Home gas user here -- now a convert to Induction!
By Thomas Karlmann
Long-time gas user here -- I am Brand New to induction. Wow -- this is truly an impressive technology. I am a single guy -- but I prepare my own food. I say prepare, because I am a raw food advocate -- but hey in the winter I need and prefer something warm. This unit has impressed me so much that I am writing my first ever product review right here. PLEASE let me know what you think. This unit is GREAT for off-grid folks too. Some specifics: This unit can warm up soup faster than gas, and assuredly faster and more controllably than any microwave. Popcorn anyone? I have been making popcorn on a gas range for about 30 years -- and I know how to do this so that almost every kernel pops. This induction unit, can pop popcorn in about 1/4 to 1/3 the time required on a gas stove, AND it is impossible to burn a single kernal -- with the temperature setting to just above boiling. I was literally amazed, surprised -- even flabbergasted. As has been stated by others, your food heats up by virtue of the bottom of your (iron) pan heating up. It does NOT heat up: the sides of the pan, the handle, you, your cat, or your house -- just your FOOD. Take a magnet to test your cookware -- if the magnet sticks to it you can use that pan; if not it will not work. But never fear -- if you place incompatible cookware on the unit it displays some error code on the LED display -- no harm done. (The pan sides & handle will get warm if you cook for a longer time such as for 2 Cups rice or quinua.)It is really great to have a dual-setting approach. You can set the power-level in Watts you want to use; or you can set the temperature. I have never been able to do that (or anything close to that) with gas, microwave or electric appliances. Just think of all the recipes that caution you NOT to scald or burn your food by constant stirring! One of the pre-set temperatures is 210 degrees F. No scalding, boiling (212 degrees f) or burning possible. One caution: this unit does retain some heat on the cooking surface -- unlike one of the TV-advertised products where you put your hand right on the surface immediately after pot removal. Don't try that with this unit. I do not consider that a limitation though. Most folks do not need to put their hands on a hot stove.Pots: Excellent results with: WearEver A8342265 Cook and Strain 1.5-Quart Saucepan with Glass Straining Lid Dishwasher Safe Sauce Pan Cookware, SilverSmall Caveat: When cooking rice, for example, after a higher setting to get to boiling, I set mine to 140 degees F -- so that it just simmers. There are some settings that cause the food to cycle between boil and not-boil -- a little bit disconcerting. There is a slight "clicking" sound as the unit cycles. Nothing here that I am worried about.P.S.: How did I do review-wise?
